Ken Troutman and David Strider widen their point’s lead but Rick Poplin and Scott Mason moved into second place and are only 8.98 behind the leaders.   Full results of the point standing and lake results are posted on the 2010 results link.

Boater using High Rock Wildlife landing should be aware of a new rule the now in place at the landing.  If you do not have a boat trailer attached to your vehicle you will need to park in the gravel parking lot.  There is a sign posted stating such but what the sign does not state that you will be fined and your vehicle will be towed at the owners expense if you park on the paved lot.    Other clubs using this landing should warn your members in advanced of this new rule.

For the Bear Creek Bass Club, the season is heating up. Although the Saturday, June 19th competition on Tillery was staged in ninety-plus degree temperatures, the weather paled in comparison to the points battle going on within the group. When the points leaders stumbled and managed only a tenth place finish, Ken Troutman and David Strider used a red-hot Tillery to grab the day’s competition and wrestle the points lead away from Lewis Gordon and Randy Burleson.  “We caught fish all day long,” stated Troutman at weigh in. “Most of the fish came on jigs.” The partners claimed a pile of points with their win and now sit on top with 303.40. On Tillery they scored five fish weighing 15.50 pounds to win the $200 first place pot. In total this season they have boated thirty-five fish weighing 87.40 pounds. Points are given based on tournament placement and participation and meetings attended. Gordon and Burleson found only 9.20 pounds to end the day in tenth, losing nine club points to Troutman and Strider.

Twenty-five of the club’s boat teams joined in the battle in waters ranging from 85 to 0 degrees. Eleven of the teams found limits for a total of 87 fish caught. In all 172.9 pounds were brought to the scales. Water temp ranged between 85 & 90.  All 25 teams fished the event.

In second place, Max Davis caught 5 weighing 12.58 pounds and found Big Fish of the event, a 5.94 solo. They earned $150 for first and $140 for the big catch. Bobby Crowley and Steve Crowley finished on third with 5 weighing 11.72 pounds and earned $100. Fourth went to Barry Davis and Kenny Hill with 11.46 pounds, good for $50. Austin Culler and Cody Stegall managed a fifth place showing with 10.62. Matthew Woods and Wayne Bost caught Second Big Fish of the event, a 4.86 pounder worth $90.

The club will move on to High Rock on July 17. Five events remain in their schedule, including a two-day tournament on Wateree and the Club’s Fish Off in November.   Details are also available on the Fishbyte.Net pages.

The Bear Creek Bass Club proved its bassing skills on Badin this past Saturday when twenty five teams scored a 2.19 pound average per fish in the eight-hour event. On top of that list were an angling team who improved their overall standing to twentieth in the club points race. D.C. Howard and Kenny Davis used overcast skies and muggy atmosphere to haul a 2.8 pound average catch to the scales.

According to Davis, the team had their limit by 9:30 AM. They used a Badin “full pond” and a shaky head to catch their biggest solo, while most of the rest were caught on buzzbaits.

The Bear Creek Bass Club holds eleven events during the season. Two of those are two-day competitions. Their season ends in November. Annual dues are just $40 and monthly meetings are held. Ryan Mullis serves as president.

Kenny Davis & DC Howard, 1st place & Big Fish, 6.02

Davis and Howard brought their five-fish limit in and anchored the winning bag with a 6.02 pounder for first. Their total weight was 14.02 pounds. They earned $200 for first and another $140 for the Big Fish.

Top in the point standings, Lewis Gordon and Randy Burleson lost no ground on other teams with a second place showing. Their 12.68 pounds was worth $150 and widened the gap in the standings. They now hold a commanding 15 point lead over

David Strider and Ken Troutman. That team finished third at Badin Saturday, just a third of a pound behind Gordon and Burleson’s bag. The third place bag of 12.30 pounds was worth $100.

Just two weeks prior at Tuckertown, David McEachern and Mike Culler had finished second. At Badin they finished a close fourth with 12.16 pounds for $50. They now sit in sixth place in the club points race.   Chris Toole and Wesley Eudy finished just outside the paying positions in fifth with 11.92 pounds and are in fourth place overall. Rick Poplin and Scott Mason are third in the points battle after finishing fourteenth Saturday.

Thirteen of the boat teams brought in limits of five and 219.62 total pounds were caught. The Bear Creek Bass Club moves on to Lake Tillery Saturday, June 19 for their sixth of eleven events in the 2010 season schedule.

Wayne Bost and Matthew Woods win on Tuckertown

April 17 & 18, 2010

May 8, 2010

A pile of boats landed on Tuckertown this past Saturday and the Bear Creek Bass Club was half of them. Twenty-four teams turned out for the fourth event in their schedule, three weeks after a two-day event on Wateree. Most made the adjustment quickly as the club usually fares well on the narrows and stumps of Tuckertown.

2nd place, Mike Culler & David McEachern

A total of 92 fish were caught with thirteen of the boats bringing in the limit of five fish. The total weight of 240.2 pounds was a 2.61 pound per fish average. On such a windy day, that takes some doing.

Matt Woods and Wayne Bost have it best figured out. The teammates brought 19.50 pounds in while grabbing Second Big Fish with a 5.46 pound solo. “We used jigs and worms most of the day on these,” stated Woods after weigh in. They now reside firmly in ninth place overall in the club points battle.

David McEachern and Mike Culler took second with 17.98 pounds, almost a pound more than third placers David Strider and Ken Troutman who boated 16.50. The spot inched McEachern and Culler  into seventh place overall and just a few points closer to the fourth  place in points, Strider and Troutman.

1st place & 2nd Big Fish, Matt Woods fishing with Wayne Bost

Fourth place finishers, Rick Poplin and Scott Mason drew 15.20 pounds out of the lake. That finish was enough to keep them in the lead in club points, where they hold a slim 10 point lead over Barry Davis and Kenny Hill. Eddie Conner and president, Ryan Mullis, finished fifth with 15.04, while Chris Toole and Wesley Eudy followed in sixth with 14.96. Bobby and Steve Crowley had First Big Fish, a 6.24 pound solo as a highlight to a 14.50 pound bag.

The club has made an adjustment in its schedule and will move next to Badin Lake and the Alcoa Landing on May 22 from 6 AM to 2 PM. They will substitute High Rock in for the July 17 date.

Lewis Gordon and Randy Burleson are intent on creating some new habits, and they used a two-day Bear Creek Bass Club at Wateree to finalize plans. The pair had earned top honors at the club’s March competition and returned to that spot after two grueling days on Wateree that totaled sixteen hours on the water.

The Bear Creek Bass Club holds eleven events during the season. Two of those are two-day competitions. Their season ends in November. Annual dues are just $40 and monthly meetings are held. Ryan Mullis serves as president.

With a twenty-plus pound bag win at Wylie March 27 bolstering their motivation, the partners scored over sixteen pounds a day during the Wateree weekend. Their 33.34 pounds kept a four pound edge over the second place Solo angler Kenny Hill (29.36 pound total).

Dave Turner and Ethan Tucker finished third with 22.94 pounds, while Max and RE Davis finished fourth for the last paying position.  In past years, the club had a ten-fish limit on Wateree, but this year they made a rule change where teams could only bring five fish to the scales.

Saturday Ken “Culley” Cullipher and Ed Brown had the Big Fish, a 5.7 pounder.  Sunday’s Big Fish honor went to Lewis Gordon and Randy Burleson for a 5.22 pound solo.

Twenty-five teams fished on Saturday and 111 fish were brought to the scales, weighing in at 254.56 pounds.  Sunday twenty-three teams fished with 83 fish weighing in at 170.3 pounds.  Saturday there were 18 limits and Sunday there were 11 limits.  The top 10 teams had over 20 pounds for the two-day event. Nearly $1,500 was paid out to winners during the weekend.

Water conditions both days were stained and visibility was limited to about six inches with average temperatures about 68 degrees.

“On a tragic note, two of our teams did not fish Sunday,”  Kyle Allen, 17, of Sunset Lake Road, Stanfield, passed away Sunday, at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle, NC, after an accident. “Wesley Eudy and Richard Huneycutt went home to be with and support their families. We would ask you to remember the family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Our next tournament will be held on Tuckertown Lake, May 8th.

Burleson and Gordon win Wylie Tournament

1st place, Lewis Gordon & Randy Burleson

When the Bear Creek Bass Club rolled into “Lake Wylie town” last weekend, one bass team had something to prove and defend. Returning as the 2009 winners of the pond, a lot of pride was on the line and they needed to prove they were the masters of the lake. The only way to do that was to repeat.

Twenty five boat teams rocked the lake, beginning at 8 AM from the Copperhead Island landing. At the end of the day, fourteen of those teams would bring a five-fish limit to the 4 PM scales. Average fish weight would be just over 2.2 pounds and ninety-nine of them would hit the weigh-in basket. For Lewis Gordon and Randy Burleson, the competition was stiff.

Saturday provided the club with sunny skies and water temps that rose from 54 to 60 degrees by day's end. Waters were stained throughout the lake. The March Wylie event would pay four places and two Big Fish honors from the $30 entry fee.

The Bear Creek Bass Club holds eleven events during the season. Two of those are two-day competitions. Their season ends in November. Annual dues are just $40 and monthly meetings are held. Ryan Mullis serves as president.

After the long line of members weighing in fish was complete and scales were closed, Burleson and Gordon had done it again. The partners had a two-year total of 43.06 pounds; 20.66 pounds of it came this year. The winners could claim mastery of the lake and a $200 payday. They also scored Second Big Fish and added $95 to their winnings.

Second place belonged to Bill McCoy and Tommy Russell who netted an impressive 16.24 pound sack that included Big Fish, a 6.06 pounder. They pair took home $150 for second and $140 for the lunker.

David Strider and Ken Troutman hauled 13.98 pounds in and captured third place, which paid $100. The final paying position went to Emmitt Ray and Martin Ledford who had 13.40 pounds for $50.

The club puts Wateree in its sights next month, Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18 for the first of two longer events in their season. They return to Wateree in October for a second, two-day competition.  Details are also available on the Fishbyte.Net pages.

Toole And Eudy Capture Norman With 15.74

Some teams end a season on a high note, while others match what they've accomplished in the past and strike off a new season on a high note. When the Bear Creek Bass Club rolled into Lake Norman's Blythe Landing Saturday, 2009 Club Champions Wesley Eudy and Chris Toole hoped to show other members they were still on a hot streak.

An 8 AM start time worked well for members as waters, even on Norman, have been on the cool side of late. Twenty-five boat teams from the club hit the water to begin a season that will include eight regular events, two two-day gatherings, and a fish off in November. The club fishes the Yadkin Chain, Norman, Wylie, and Wateree. Membership is $40 per year and each tournament costs $30.

Wesley Eudy & Chris Toole

Nineteen of the teams weigh in fish a five fish limit after eight grueling hours of competition. For Eudy and Toole, it was a great day on the water and even better at the scales. The pair boated five fish with a total weight of 15.74 pounds to capture first place and start their 2010 championship race off right. Their sack included Big Fish of the day, a 5.34 pounder. Total earnings for both honors was $440.

Rick Poplin and Scott Mason returned for the hunt, nailing down second with 11.94 pounds. They won $150. The pair scored numerous top-five finishes last season.

Max and  R.E. Davis, also contenders the year before, put 11.12 pounds in their livewell to take third. They won $100. The final paying position was filled by Emmitt Ray and Martin Ledford, who found 10.74 pounds and $50.   Water temperatures were in the mid-fifties and was stained.   A total of 113 bass were weighed in - complete details can be found on the 2010 Results Link.  Our next tournenment will be on March 27th on Lake Wylie.
